The Dickinson Community Quad!

This is the place to go if you want to partake in community-wide outdoor studying.

Our volleyball court!

In the quad there's nice bench to sit on if you need to tie your shoe or something.

Co-rec football field. Co-rec is glorified co-ed flag football. Each of the six buildings in Dickinson (Champlain, Digman, Johnson, O'Connor, Rafuse, and Whitney) have their own team. Freshman and Sophomore year I played on Champlain's team: the Chinchillas.

The Chinchillas!! This is our team my freshman year. We had so much spirit!

Some of the Chinchilla girls cheering on the team from the sidelines!

This basketball court is a new addition to our community. It was built the summer after freshman year and was directly outside of our window sophomore year. Let me tell you, Caitlin (my roommate) and I were very surprised to see this little number! You would be amazed at how many people like to shoot hoops at 3 in the morning on an unlit basketball court. We devised elaborate plans to cover the hoops with Plexiglas, so that people would become frustrated with their poor playing skills and leave the court forever! On the plus side, there were usually lots of hot half-naked guys outside our window!! Ding!

Here is our friendly community walkway! Directly in front of you is Rafuse, which is the building that I live in!! Directly to your right (out of the picture) is Champlain, the building I lived in during the first two years of college.

This is what you see if you look to your right. Champlain: home of the Chinchillas! Behind this large window is the Recreation Lounge. This is where you can play pool, watch television or borrow the VCR to watch a movie, enjoy the non-working fireplace, or relax on one of the many mismatched couches. The fireplace used to work (a long time ago), but they blocked it up after a group of students built a fire using the furniture from the lounge.

This is what it used to look like when it was first built. The big orange sign is gone now, the shrubbery has changed, and I think part of the tree is dead--tragic.

A view of the Champlain entrance from the other side of the walkway.

This is what you would see if you looked to your left in the friendly community walkway picture. This is Whitney, Champlain's sister building. Their hall color is gray.

Whitney's front entrance is in the dark shadows there.

Whitney Hall from a different angle. (Isn't this a hot birch tree?)

Continuing down the walkway...the next building to our right is Digman. Each building in Dickinson has a sister building. There are three sets of two buildings--each forming an L shape. Digman and Rafuse (where I live now) are sister buildings. Each building is shaped like an L too! The person who designed Dickinson must have really liked that letter!

Digman from a different perspective. The volleyball net is in the center of the community.

Here is Digman's Main Entrance. If you follow the covered walkway to the left (approximately 15 steps) you reach...

The main entrance to Rafuse (my building)! See how that works? Tricky tricky!

This is the south wing of Rafuse. I live in the west wing. They look almost exactly the same...

This is the view from my window.

Making our way over to Johnson and O'Connor... Large rocks have recently been placed strategically throughout the community. The Management is discouraging us from cutting across the grass. Ha! Lots of luck with that one.

The Object! Da da duuummm!

O'Connor is the home of CORE, the computers, robotics and engineering housing module. It also houses the Dickinson Community Offices and the Darkroom.

This is Johnson, O'Connor's sister building. Their hall color is red.

If there is one thing that symbolizes Dickinson Community, I would say it would have to be The Object. This is our piece of abstract art located in the central part of the community. We hang our tye-dyed t-shirts on it during Dickinson Day and climb on it when we're feeling adventurous. I think that it will eternally be a topic of discussion and cogitation for Dickinson Community alum!

Come Visit!
