1. Exercise heightens the senses, so work out a little bit before you go. 2. Let the wine breathe--pepper your host with questions while the wine opens up. 3. Too dim or too bright of lighting can stress your senses and interfere with the tasting. 4. Put some food in your stomache before tasting to avoid a premature buzz. 5. Drink water so you're not thirsty and can drink the wine for enjoyment and not because you're parched. You'll get more out of the tasting and appreciate the flavors more if you're not thirsty. 6. Don't be afraid to keep the wine in your mouth for a while. Use your teeth and tongue--really TASTE it.
